How much will it cost to get my house cleaned?

It varies, depending on several factors: the size of the home, how often we visit, how many people and pets live in the home, and how much “deferred cleaning maintenance” there is, as we like to say.

Our online estimate tool is fast, easy and will give you a ballpark estimate right away. Submit the finished form, and one of our experienced onboarding folks will provide you with a more detailed estimate.

How do you determine how much to charge?

We always start with a personalized estimate.

We price primarily by the room for routine cleanings. Kitchens and bathrooms take the longest and therefore add the most to the price. Living areas and bedrooms generally cost less per room.

We also make minor adjustments for several factors: cleaning frequency (more frequent=less per visit), number of people and pets living in the home, overall size of the home and amount of clutter and/or buildup between visits.

How do I schedule a house cleaning?

Once you receive and approve your estimate, we can schedule over email, text or a phone call. A phone call is actually quickest, but email and text work, too!

For routine cleanings, we’ll let you know a day of the week and time of day that we have an opening in your area. There are often multiple options to choose from. Once we’ve found a routine day of the week, we’ll come on that day at the desired frequency – every week, every other week, or every four weeks.

Are you bonded and insured?

Yes, we are well insured. We can furnish a certificate of insurance on request. Our insurance includes an employee bond, which insures against employee dishonesty (theft).

What kinds of cleaning products do you use?

We clean homes using our own handmade, super-effective, non-toxic cleaning products. We use vinegar, baking soda, non-chlorine bleach, plant-based detergents and essential oils. These formulas are simple, safe and powerful.

If you are sensitive to scents or just prefer a different scent, let us know! We offer custom low-scent versions of our formulas!

Our House Cleaning Team   Back to Top

Who will be cleaning my house?

We will assign a cleaning person to your home once your initial deep cleaning is complete. All of our staff are highly trained and love to clean. We choose only the most caring, helpful and trustworthy people to join our team. They are a joy to have in your home!

We perform a thorough background check and screening process on every new hire. They also spend almost a month training one-on-one with an experienced trainer.

Some of our staff have more than 20 years’ experience cleaning. Some are newer to the profession, but all share a passion for cleaning and a desire to deliver the best service possible.

Will I get the same cleaning person every time?

Most of the time, yes. Our goal is to get you familiar with your cleaner, and to get your cleaner familiar and comfortable with your home. We have industry-leading low employee turnover rates.

That said, folks do move on from this work at a greater rate than some other professions, so some turnover is to be expected.

Do you perform background checks on your cleaning staff?

Yes. Our background checks include a national criminal record search, sex offender database search, driver’s record report and county criminal records from every county associated with that individual’s social security number. It is the most thorough background check screening process of any cleaning service we know.

Performing this level of check on every new employee costs more than your average background check. That’s why many cleaning companies don’t bother. But we believe this high level of security is worth it for your piece of mind.

Can I tip my cleaner?

That’s so generous, thank you for asking! If you would like to leave a tip, you may do so at the time of service in cash, or there is an option to tip on your credit card.

Some clients choose to tip once per year, around the holidays. That’s great, too!

Do I need to provide any cleaning supplies or equipment?

No. All cleaning equipment, supplies and formulas are included with your service. The Green Clean Maine Method for cleaning a home relies on our carefully selected set of equipment and handmade formulas working together to create an effective, efficient and smell-good cleaning experience.

What if I need to reschedule a cleaning?

No problem! Simply text, email or call us, and we’ll make whatever change you need.

A 24-hour notice is required to reschedule a cleaning in order to avoid a reschedule fee. This ensures schedule predictability for our hardworking staff.

How will I know when a cleaning visit is coming up? Are there reminders?

By default, you will receive an email 72 hours before the cleaning visit, and a text message 24 hours before.

You can change these settings at any time by logging in to your secure customer portal. There you can add reminders, remove reminders and even add an alert to let you know when we are on the way to your home! You may also call or text us and we can set these reminders for you.

How long does a house cleaning take?

It varies, depending on several factors including the size of the home, how often we visit, how many people and pets live in the home, etc.

That said, an average house cleaning will take between 3-4 hours to complete. Smaller or more lightly-used homes take less time. Larger or more heavily used homes take more time.

Do I need to clean before you arrive?

No, you do not need to clean. Leave that to us!

However, a little tidying up will go a long way in allowing your cleaning person to efficiently access all the surfaces that need cleaning.

How do you handle entry?

The most secure and convenient way to ensure we can access your home at the scheduled time is to install a lockbox with a key inside, or to install an electronic keypad.

We do not recommend planning to be home each visit to let the staff member in. While we encourage you to meet your cleaner and get to know them, it can become inconvenient if you need to be there to let us in each visit. Last-minute scheduling changes do happen, and we want to be able to serve your home on your designated day without inconveniencing you!

Do I need to be home when the cleaning team arrives?

No. The most popular option is to leave a key in a lock box or to install an electronic keypad for easy and secure access, whether or not you are home.

We do not recommend planning to be home in order to let the cleaner in. You are likely busy, and last-minute scheduling changes do occur. So, in order to ensure we can service your home on schedule and to avoid lockout fees, we strongly recommend a keypad or lockbox.

What happens if something is missed or I’m not happy with the quality of the cleaning?

We want you to be 100% satisfied after each visit. If you aren’t, we want to make it right.

After each cleaning visit, we ask for feedback. Respond by simply tapping a button in the email! That’s right, one click to rate your service, whether you are happy or feel it could have been done better.

We very much appreciate any specifics you can provide about what was missed or what could have been better, so we can dispatch a supervisor to fix the problem.

You can also text, email or call us at any time. We love to hear from you, whether it’s to rave about awesome service or point out where we could have done better. We continuously look for ways to improve, and take every piece of feedback as a learning opportunity!

Reviews

  • I have been a GCM customer for more than a year and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. My team, lead by Maggie who has been joined by many talented team members over the many months they've been visiting, have all been exemplary. I knew that I wanted to get a housekeeping service as a "gift" to myself and found a way to trim my budget in other areas to make it happen. Without question it is the best decision I ever made to partner with Green Clean Maine. Awesome service, friendly and trustworthy team members and I love how they respect the environment with no harsh chemicals.
